Harishchandragad is one of the most famous and ancient hill forts of Maharashtra, located in the Ahmednagar district at an altitude of 4,671 ft. Known for its mythological, historical, and natural significance, this trek is a must-do for every adventure lover.
The fort is believed to date back to the 6th century, with caves carved in the Yadava period and the stunning Harishchandreshwar temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. The Kedareshwar cave with a massive Shivling submerged in water adds to its spiritual aura.
The highlight of Harishchandragad is the majestic Kokankada (Konkan cliff) β a gigantic semicircular cliff famous for its breathtaking sunrise, sunset, and stargazing views. On clear nights, trekkers witness one of the best Milky Way views in the Sahyadris.
Harishchandragad offers multiple trekking routes ranging from easy (Pachnai) to extreme adventure (Nalichi Vaat). Each trail passes through lush forests, waterfalls, rock patches, and scenic valleys β making it an ideal trek for beginners, seasoned trekkers, and nature photographers alike.
A perfect blend of adventure, history, and natural beauty, Harishchandragad is not just a trek but an experience of a lifetime.
